The German Tognum AG, which specializes in the production of engines and components for the energy sector, and the Russian group CJSC Transmashholding (TMH), which focuses on the design of railway systems and transportation, have signed a joint venture agreement with the aim to build a new factory in Kolomna, Russia, for the production of diesel engines for the rail, mining, energy and maritime transport. The goal is to reach a production level up to a thousand engines to Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The joint venture will be jointly owned by two companies, will be headquartered in the Netherlands and will be called Tognum Transmashholding Tognum-BV In addition, the TMH Diesel Technologies, a company wholly controlled by Tognum Transmashholding will then be responsible for sales and production of engines.
The agreement provides that from 2013 the propulsion systems of the MTU 4000 series, the brand which produces Tognum engines, are assembled in the new factory in Kolomna, south of Moscow region. Then the two partners will develop a new engine designed specifically for the Russian market, Eastern Europe and Asia. The new engine will be designed by a new center joint design and Tognum and TMH will also calling for maritime applications.
The first engines to Russia and marketed jointly by Tognum and TMH will be achieved by the company's German plants in Friedrichshafen.
