The Minister of Transport of Montenegro Andrija lumpfish, and the Director General of the Department of Transport, Veselin Grbovic, met in Rome the president of the Italian Ports (Assoporti), Francesco Nerli. At the request of the delegation of Montenegro, to the meeting - held at the headquarters of Assoporti - attended by the presidents of the Port Authority of Gioia Tauro, John Grimaldi, and Bari, Franco Mariani, and the Secretary General of the Port of Brindisi Nicholas Noble, in order to exchange views on some topics of common interest.
"Italy - said the minister lumpfish - is for us an important partner for the development of the objectives we set ourselves and that is why we wanted to meet the Italian Association of Ports and harbors of the presidents with whom we can work together to improve even more the industry and transport terms, in particular, the development of the port of Bar. "
"There are three - added lumpfish - the main reasons of our visit: first, ensuring that the positions of Italy and Montenegro are in line with the insertion of the corridors of common interest in the core network of the European Union, resulting from the forthcoming meetings in the Commission in relation to the TEN-T. We place great emphasis on the development of corridors, arriving by sea from Italy to the port of Bar, and then continue by train to Belgrade and beyond. Then, we would like to intensify the movement of container traffic to and from the port of Bar, which is expected to increase significantly, with the Italian ports of transshipment, notably Gioia Tauro. Finally, we would like it to be given information that is about to announce a tender for the sale of shares to individuals, even state-owned company that manages the container terminal. We believe that such information may be of interest to the maritime component of the cluster-Italian port. "
"We will work with all national and community locations, as we have always done - said Francesco Nerli - to confirm the corridors and ports in the core network."
The chairman of the port of Gioia Tauro, Grimaldi, gave his full readiness to take action in the appropriate forums to increase traffic between the port and the Calabrian port of Bar, while the chairman of the port of Bari and of the Secretary-General ' Port Authority of Brindisi have stressed the importance of rail corridors for the transport of goods in that area.
