Tomorrow kicks off the port of Venice SafePORT the European project, an initiative to promote and implement, for the first time, a logical system between the Adriatic ports on security in ports. The project was presented as part of the Italy-Slovenia 2007-2013 and is almost totally financed by the European Union for 2.73 million euros
The initiative is part of the priority program "Environment, Transport and sustainable territorial integration" to strengthen and protect the environment against natural and technological hazards and pollution. SafePORT intends to address some critical issues present in the geographical involved, such as the handling of dangerous goods in ports and pollution from industrial and commercial activities in these areas already contaminated (such Marghera).
SafePORT provides for the definition and implementation of a set of system interventions designed to cope with emergencies and major incidents within the port area, such as accidents at work deriving from the handling of dangerous goods (industrial hazards), and the containment of 'pollution and marine environment resulting from the compendium of marine and port logistics (ERA).
The Port Authority of Venice, the leader of the initiative, hosting the launch event which will see the presence of the President and the Secretary's general port, Paul Costa and Franco Sensini and the intervention of the Councillor for Transport and Inland Port and the Veneto Region and the Director General of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Poar.
Among the project partners, as well as body Venice port, include the Port Authority of Trieste, the special agency for the Port of Monfalcone, the Consortium for Industrial Development of the area Aussa Horn, the Port Authority of Ravenna , the special agency for the port of Chioggia, the port of Koper and the University of Primorska, Primorska Institute of Natural Sciences and techniques of Koper.
