RINA participates to the first project of marine transport of the compressed natural gas in Indonesia



The society of classification and Italian certification RINA is involved by PT PLN (Lost), Indonesian utility of electric power, in the development of the first project to the world for the marine transport of the compressed natural gas. RINA has explained that such project, that would have to enter in function in 2013, will be able to transport from three to six million cubic metres to natural the gas day compressed (Cng) from the cargo terminal PLN situated on the Indonesian island of Gresik until the electric power plant that has a productive ability to 100 MW of energy, which placed on the Lombok neighbor.

The main advantage of such technology is in uses it of the most economic natural gas compressed in place of fuels liquids for the energy production. If the project pilot will be revealed of success, the modalities of transport of the compressed natural gas by sea characterized will be applied in other electric power plants of other islands of Indonesia.

The agreement between PT PLN and RINA has been undersigned on 31 January near the center of the Indonesian group. The Italian group has already delivered the study of feasibility of the project and now it is developing to the FEED (Front End Engeneering Design) to which it will follow the support activity during the contest that will be indetta to May and successively that for the management of the project in the phases of development of engineering of detail, supplying and construction (contracted EPC).

Indonesian utility PLN has already mappato the Indonesian territory in order to characterize other apt sites to uses it of the Cng is in the part oriental who in that western one of the State. The gas will be extracted by wells to lowland ability, or will be taken by the surplus caused from the variability of the gas question.

The RINA will take care to more advise the Indonesian operator in the choice of the adapted type than means to use, of the logistic model, the planning of the terminals of compression and decompression, let alone of the appraisal of the offers formulated in response to contest EPC for the construction of the previewed systems.

The Italian society has remembered to have recently developed the regulations for the classification of the ships to compressed natural gas, based on the experiences made until now on the "marine Cng" and the concept of the qualification of the new technologies.
