Agreement ABB - Statoil for the development of technologies of control and feeding in the submarine depths



Helvetian ABB and the Statoil Norwegian have started an industrial program combined for the development of technologies of control and feeding in the submarine depths. "The joint one industry program - it has specified senior vice-president for research purposes, the development and the innovation of Statoil, Karl Johnny Hersvik - will develop the technologies necessary in order to supply electric power supply to submarine pumps, pumps submersible electrical workers and compressori of gas submarines for projects on the Norwegian continental platform, in the Gulf of Mexico and other sites all over the world".

Statoil on behalf directs the program of other oil societies participants, while ABB is in charge of the development of the new technologies. Evidencing that the agreement represents an important step of I walk towards the development of complete systems for the production of oil and gas in the marine depths, ABB has specified that the program will develop solutions for the systems of transmission, distribution and conversion of electric power, planned for feeding and controlling submarine pumps and compressori of gas to the depth of 3.000 meters and on wide distances. The program will supply solutions for the transmission of electric power until 100 megawatt on a distance of 600 kilometers and to depth until 3.000 meters. The Swiss group has explained that the surge and compression of the submarine gas contribute to use better of the resources than oil and gas thanks to a greater percentage of recovery, a cost reduction of production and the ulterior development of the production in deep waters.

The quinquennial program is based on a wide study on the executed submarine electric power supply from Statoil and ABB in the course of 2012. The value total of the contract is of 100 million dollars, that it will jointly be financed by all the enterprises participants.

The technology of distribution of the adopted submarine electric power will afford more cargos constituents, as the pumps and the compressori, of being endowed of an only power cord. This will reduce in meaningful way the costs of investment regarding the existing solutions that use a cable for every single charge. The new technology, for example - they have explained ABB and Statoil - will make to save than 500 million dollars more if eight cargos, with a distance of 200 kilometers from other infrastructures, will be connected through an only cable.
