The general secretary of the Harbour Authority of Gioia Tauro, Salvatore Silvestri, has made visit the Harbour Authority of Saint Cruz de Tenerife, agency that guides the six ports of the Canarian Islands. In occasion of the visit the president of the Spanish Harbour Authority, Pedro Rodríguez Zaragoza, has proposed the subscription of an agreement of cooperation with the port of Gioia Tauro. Objective of Tenerife is that to intercept the traffics of the West Africa in order to offer they a direct connection with the Mediterranean through the calabrian port of call, but also with Europe of the South bypassando the port of Rotterdam. "It has been - it has emphasized Rodríguez - a great pleasure to receive the secretary of the Harbour Authority of Gioia Tauro, to which we will be pleased to exchange again the courtesy soon making visit to the port of Gioia Tauro. In that occasion we will write up with a proposal that we will send to the European Union, that the construction of our new port of Granadilla has co-financed, so that can support this our choice to cooperate with the port of call of Gioia Tauro. For us it would be our only port of reference in Italy for the traffics Africans destined to reach the markets of part of Europe of the South and the Mediterranean".

In this distance the Harbour Authority of Gioia Tauro has interscambiato own experiences with other partner Italian and European. From Italy, besides the Harbour Authority of Gioia Tauro, they have participated one of the terminalisti of the port of Gioia Tauro, ICO Blg spa, and the University of the Calabria, while between the European members, from Spain, the government of the Canarian Islands, front man, followed from the region of Bremen in Germany, the Marmare region in Turkey and the Rousse region of Bulgaria.
