In the port of Singapore they are inaugurated the third and fourth phase of the Pasir Panjang Terminal



Tuesday the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien, has inaugurated the third and fourth phase of realization of the project of construction of the container terminal Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) of the port of the Asian city state, that it is the terminal technologically more advanced between those managed from group PSA.

The project involves by PSA a total investment of 3,5 billion dollars of Singapore (USA 2,6 billion dollars) for the construction almost six kilometers of docks with depth of the backdrop until -18 meters. Thanks to the third and fourth phase of the PPT, that they will totally become operating at the end of 2017, the ability to containerized trade of the terminals of Singapore of group PSA it will grow of 50% about going up to 50 million teu per year.

With the inauguration the year of activity of the port in the field of the container is celebrated also 43°, activity has had the start on June 23, 1972 with the arrival to Singapore of the Nihon, the landed first portacontainer to the Asian port with a cargo of single 300 containers. The prime Minister has emphasized that from the Singapore Seventies "it has become one of the ports with greater traffic in the world and today - has added Lee Hsien - we are the first hub of transhipment of the world and according to port of the world for total traffic after Shanghai that benefits of the fact to serve the delta of the Yangtze river and has a hinterland constituted from great part of China, while to Singapore we have a national truth constituted by 5,5 million people". Hsien has remembered that, besides 3,5 billion dollars of Singapore invested from PSA, the government has invested two billions of dollars of Singapore in order to realize the tombamenti necessary in order to construct third and fourth phase of the Pasir Panjang Terminal.

The Prime Minister has remembered moreover that, to beyond the widening of terminal PPT, another plan of potenziamento of the port of Singapore is on: "we have programmed - it has specified - to consolidate all the activities of PSA in mega a terminal to Tuas ( on October 1°, 2012, ndr). We had taken in Tuas consideration previously, but - it has reminded - we were not ready. From then we have carried out ulterior reclamations to Tuas and have newly taken in consideration the area, and this time we think of being able to you to absolutely realize from zero a port first class that will increase our ability to traffic 65 million teu, pairs almost the double quantity of how many we have enlivened some in port last year".
