Investments for beyond 300 million dollars in order upgrading the port of Philadelphia



The State of Pennsylvania has announced a plan of potenziamento of the port of Philadelphia that previews investments for beyond 300 million dollars with the objective doubling the ability to containerized trade of the port of call. The plan, that the next year will be started, previews also the increment of the not containerized ability to handling of goods.

The main objective of the program is to increase to the places of work and the returns for the State. In particular, second the forecasts, the increase of the traffics will allow to increase of 70% the number of directed places of work, that it will go up from 3.124 to 5.378, and those total ones in the port, that they will pass from 10.341 to 17.020. Moreover the generated annual Internal Revenue from the port that it meets in the cases of the local and state institutions will increase from current 69,6 million dollars to 108,4 million dollars.

"This investment program - it has emphasized the governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf - will give to the port of Philadelphia the instruments necessary in order to increase own competitive position and to create thousands of places of work for the families of medium yield and meanwhile in order to increase the entrances of the State. With such essential economic impact for all the State, my administration is aware of the value for Pennsylvania of the activities of the port of Philadelphia".

The plan previews investments pairs to about 200 million dollars in the single Packer Avenue Marine Terminal, the main terminal of the port that is dedicated to the traffic of the container but it enlivens also automobiles, iron worker and other types of cargo. Al terminal will be carried out participations of dredging of the backdrops, will be arranged warehouses and buildings and will come acquired four new cranes post-Panamax. Thanks to these and others works, the annual ability to traffic of the terminal on the Delaware river will double going up to 900 thousand teu, with the possibility to increase successively until beyond 1,2 million teu. One previews that over 15 years the places of work directed to the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal will go up from current the 2,167 to 3.711 and those total ones will pass from current the 6,663 to 10.707.

Deep remaining will be used in order to increase of +166% the ability to handling of motors vehicle to the Philadelpha Car Processing Facility (PAPF), where in 15 years an increase of the places of work directed from 335 to 860 and of those total ones from 1.209 to 3.105 attends, and of +21% the ability to loose handling of goods to the Tioga Marine Terminal, where it previews that the direct places of work will pass from current the 622 to 807 and those total ones from 2.469 to 3.208.
