To Bologna the meeting final of the European project Seafront on the technologies for the control of the biofouling



In recent days to Bologna the conclusive event of Synergistic Fouling Control Technologies - Seafront, the centralized European project has held on the development of the technologies for the reduction of the hydrodynamic resistances and for the control and of the biofouling, that is the biological incrustations that are formed on the superficial ones dipped in seawater, in particular on the hulls of the ships.

To the two days of the event, that it has been organized from the Italian company of Bio biotechnologies, five multinationals representatives of and seven coming institute of search from eight Member States of the EU have participated to 50 seven PMI, that they have introduced and discussed the results reached in the four years about activities carried out in the development of ecocompatibili coverings that prevent I accumulate it undesired of marine organisms on aquatic boats, ships, headquarters and other installations.

Arranging more approaches and antifouling technologies the project has reached the following objectives: economically favorable solutions of covering with determined reduced environmental impact as from the life-cycle of the produced one and from the appraisal of the echo-efficiency; improvement of the dissuasion of biofouling and/or the release of the biofouling; reduction of the hydrodynamic resistance with consequent improvement of 5% of the operating efficiency.

In parallel the meccanicistica understanding of new of predictive tests of the performances are developed to a strong method and in order to supply feedback and to inform the evolution of the technology and to in the field select so the promising coverings for the tests.

The coverings of control of the incrostanti developed in the within of the project coordinated from Istituto Olandese of the Polymers (Dutch Polymer Institute - DPI) do not release not biodegradable chemical substances or other injurious substances in the marine atmosphere. Moreover, the coverings will substantially reduce the hydrodynamic resistance of ships and boats, diminishing the fuel burnup and therefore reducing the emissions of co2. At last, the new coverings will carry to remarkable savings on the operating costs improving the efficiency of the systems of energy that take advantage of the currents and reducing the frequency of maintenance and cleansing in infrastructures offshore and also in the aquaculture structure.

The budget of the Seafront project piled to 11,2 million euros, financed with eight million euro of contribution of the EU commission in the within of the Seventh Program Picture of Research & development (7°PQ), call Ocean of Tomorrow.
