The port of Antwerp has established the own new absolute record of quarterly traffic of the goods



In the first three months of the 2018 port of Antwerp it has recorded the own new absolute record of quarterly traffic of the goods having enlivened 58,3 million tons, with an increment of +7.1% on the first trimester of the year precedence and with an increase almost 1,3 million tons compared to the previous the obtained quarterly maximum peak in according to trimester of 2017.

The new record is established graces mainly to the new absolute quarterly record of containerized trade: in the first three months of this year the cargos in container are piled to 32,6 million tons and are totaled with a handling of containers pairs to 2.744.226 teu, two figures that constitute new maximums - advanced to those precedence marked both in according to trimester of 2017 - and that they represent increases respective of +9.5% and of +10.7% on the first trimester last year. In the single freedom of expression of the 2018 harbour port of call it has established also the own new record absolute salary of traffic of the enlivened container having 980 thousand teu.

Moreover in the first three months of this year the Belgian port has recorded the new liquid bulk and rotabili cargo records enlivened in the first trimester of the year: in fact tons of goods are totaled 1,3 million ro-ro, with a progression of +6.0% on the previous record achieved in the first trimester of 2017, and 18,5 million tons of loaded liquids, with an increment of +4.6% on the first trimester last year (the precedence record were obtained in the first trimester of 2016 with the 17,7 million one tons).

In the first trimester of 2018, moreover, the port has enlivened almost 3,4 million tons of solid bulk, with an increase of +7.4% on the same period of 2017. Handling of new cars of factory has been of 323.901 units (+2.3%). The only section of traffic in which a bending is recorded is that of the goods conventional that has archived item the period with a total of 2,5 million tons (- 3.1%).

Commenting these data of traffic the managing director of the Harbour Authority of Antwerp, Jacques Vandermeiren, referring to the debate in course on the opportunity and the necessity or less than to increase the ability to traffic of the container of the Belgian port of call, has evidenced that "the current data of increase of 9.5% in the segment of the container not only confirmation the necessity of ulterior ability, but demonstrates clearly also that soon the limit of operating ability will be exceeded and that the expansion of the ability to handling of containers will become necessary a lot before how much originally previewed".
