Confitarma, is necessary to increase the pilotage service radio



The widening of the service of pilotage in VHF in the national ports is a priority objective that covers a great importance for the armament for the competitiveness of the ports and the Italian operators, without for prejudicing the requirement of protection of safety and the atmosphere. It has emphasized the Shipping president of the Italian Confederation (Confitarma), Mario Mattioli, taking part today to Rome to the assembly anniversary of the Italian Federation Pilots of the Ports (Fedepiloti).

"The choice operated up to now from our institutions to exclude the instrument of the PEC - it has added Mattioli - must induce to us to assume initiatives seriously times to increase the pilotage service radio so as to give an effective and coherent answer with the addresses expressed from the Parliament and the European Council and brought back in the recent regulations n. 352/2007 that institutes a normative picture for the supply of the harbour services".

The president of Confitarma has asserted that the collaboration in existence to European level between the European Maritime Pilots' Association (EMPA) and the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA) in order to characterize the common points for the application of the Pilot Exemption Certificate or of equivalent systems, he can "represent an ulterior stimulus in order to face the problem on a national level also, so as to characterize, of common agreement, a shared distance that he short realizes the widening of the VHF to favor in particular of the marine transport beam that, for the elevated number of carried out ports of call, is what more of the other manifest greater sensibility to the problem".

At last Mattioli has invited the presidents of the Authorities of Harbour System to giving to absolute priority to the realization of the pilotage tower and meanwhile it has asked the General Command of the Body of the Harbour offices to stimulate the harbours-office "to characterize temporary logistic solutions that can, in absence of the tower, being however in a position to guaranteeing to the pilots an adequate direct visibility of the watery space in which the ships in harbour within journey". The all - it has emphasized - in times breviums, otherwise - it has admonished - "Confitarma would be forced to revalue other strategies".
