Started the contest for the concession of the new container terminal in deep waters of the port of Rijeka



The Harbour Authority of Rijeka has started a procedure of international contest for the allocation of the concession of a new container terminal in deep waters in the Croatian port, with offers that could be correspondents within next 3 May and with the subscription of the contract with the concessionaire who previews himself it will happen in the last trimester of this year.

The project Zagreb Deep Sea Container Terminal (ZCT), that it takes part of the Rijeka Gateway Project that already is started(on 7 February 2019), it will be realized in two phases, with the first - already in course - that previews the realization of a dock of 400 linear meters and with the second one for the construction of ulterior 280 linear meters of dock. Moreover the possibility is previewed to activate a third phase of the project in order to extend the line of dock until 1.250 linear meters. The new terminal, that it will have a depth of the backdrop at least -20 meters, will have initially a annual ability to traffic pairs to beyond 600 thousand teu that it will be elevated to 800 thousand teu with the realization of the second phase.

For the realization of the first two phases of the project an investment of 350 million euros is previewed. For the first phase an expense of 188,4 million euros is previewed, of which 108,4 million euros of deep coming for 23.5% from the Croatian State and for 76.5% from a loan of invested the World-wide Bank and 80 million euros from the concessionaire characterized through the contest procedure, that it will manage the new terminal for 50 years (the duration of the concession could be reduced until 30 years according to the entity of the investment). For the second phase the previewed investment is of 100 million euros entirely supported from the concessionaire. To this they join 61 million euros for deep the railway and street infrastructure realization with coming from the Croatian Railroads and the highway concessions.

Last year the port of Rijeka has enlivened a containerized trade record pairs to 260 thousand teu(on 6 February 2019), containers that are enlivened to the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), the terminal containers of the Croatian port of call that is managed by the terminalista group Philippine International Container Services Terminal, Inc. (ICTSI). An ulterior increase of the traffic attends in the next few years that second the forecasts will exceed 600 thousand teu in 2025.
