Duisport, COSCO, Hupac and HTS will construct to the greatest inland container terminal of Europe



Duisburger Hafen (duisport), the society that manages the German harbour port of call of Duisburg that is the inland port larger of Europe, heads more at the container than at the raw materials. With the slogan "the logistics after the coal", the harbour society has introduced in fact a project that previews the realization of the greatest inland European container port that will rise on the Kohleinsel, the island of the coal in the harbour area of Ruhrort in which currently handling of this raw materials is concentrated.

The project for the construction of the container trimodale terminal will be started the next year and will be realized by duisport with the COSCO Shipping Logistics of shipowning group Chinese COSCO Shipping, to the intermodal operator Helvetic Hupac and Dutch HTS Group, society that takes care of the intermodal logistics of the container and has a fleet of fluvial boats. The initiative will be got ahead by joint venture participated to 30% from duisport, to 30% from COSCO Shipping Logistics, to 20% from Hupac and 20% from HTS. The estimated investment is of about 100 million euros and, second the forecasts, the terminal will become operating in 2022.

The duisport it has specified that the project is an answer to the drastic decrease of the coal traffic determined from the transformation in existence in the field of the energy and that the new terminal, that Duisburg Gateway will be called Terminal, will be realized mainly in order to manage the fast increase of the commercial exchanges with China being become an European head physician hub along the corridors of the New Via of the Silk. Duisport has remembered that already now about il30% of the commercial exchanges for railway way between China and Europe they pass through the port of Duisburg, with 35-40 trains that every week connect the inland port German with a dozen of destinations in China. According to the forecasts, this traffic will go up in future to 100 trains to the week and new Duisburg Gateway Terminal will reach a volume of annual containerized trade pairs to about 850 thousand teu.

In the destined area of 240 thousand square metres to the new container terminal, 220 thousand will be used in order to accommodate the terminalistica area and 20 thousand for warehouses. The terminal will be equipped with six crane to portal, a train station with 12 railroads of the length of 730 meters everyone, five cargo areas and drainage, three docks for the fluvial boats and an area of storage of 60 thousand square metres.
