RINA-Fincantieri agreement to develop synergies in the field of decarbonisation
Activities focused in particular on alternative fuels, carbon capture and renewable energy in the shipbuilding industry
March 31, 2022
The RINA classification and certification company and the navalmechanical group Fincantieri have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance the mutual expertise, which is designed to develop synergies in the field of decarbonisation with particular reference to alternative fuels, carbon capture (carbon capture), and renewable energy in the shipbuilding industry. The memorandum of understanding provides for the mutual involvement of the two companies in initiatives related to technology scouting, analysis, study, and thus to simulations on new fuels or energy carriers-in particular, hydrogen and ammonia-and carbon capture, that is, the collection of carbon dioxide produced during industrial processes aimed at its storage and reuse. The collaboration will also include activities dedicated to the approval in principle (AiP), i.e. with an approach to risk-based classification that allows to validate new designs and unpublished concepts on the basis of equivalences in terms of security, and the qualification of innovative projects and technologies.
In the renewable energy sector, the two companies will focus on offshore wind power plants and on technological solutions dedicated to energy produced by ondoso bikes. In addition, RINA and Fincantieri will participate together with EU-funded research and development projects and will engage in the development of the "green finance" sector.
