US trade gap narrows
(BBC News)
October 20, 1999
The US trade gap narrowed in August to $24.1bn, the first drop for six months.
The narrowing deficit should provide some relief to US stocks, which had been prey to fears that a wider deficit would prompt foreign investors to take their money out of US assets.
The August deficit represents a 3.2% drop from the all-time record of $24.9bn set in July.
