Nei primi dieci mesi di quest'anno il porto statunitense di Long Beach ha movimentato oltre 107 milioni di tonnellate di merci, con un incremento del 7,9% rispetto allo stesso periodo del 1999. Le merci varie, con 74,8 milioni di tonnellate, hanno registrato una crescita dell'8,3%. I carichi containerizzati sono risultati pari a 72,5 milioni di tonnellate (+8,4%). In termini di teu il traffico è stato di 3.838.500 unità da venti piedi, con un aumento del 5,3% rispetto al periodo gennaio - ottobre 1999. Nello scorso ottobre sono stati movimentati 432.932 (+9,2%), con una sensibile crescita degli imbarchi di container pieni (+15,3%). Si tratta del secondo miglior risultato mensile mai ottenuto dal porto californiano dopo quello registrato nello scorso agosto (437.741 teu).
Con oltre 4 milioni di tonnellate le rinfuse solide hanno mostrato un incremento del 15,7%; meno accentuato invece (+5,6%, 27,3 milioni di tonnellate) quello delle rinfuse liquide.
