Today the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, attended the celebration ceremony in La Spezia for the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Navy. In the Ligurian port city head of state, accompanied by Minister of Defense Ignazio La Russa, has reviewed the military deployed on the Pier Italy and ships at anchor in the water in front.
Then Napolitano has met a delegation of workers of the naval-mechanical Fincantieri that have delivered a letter stressed that "the future of the Italian shipbuilding industry and our factories remains to be written. It is crucial in this regard the government's strong commitment to reconstruction, as well as the management company. " Following the meeting Napolitano urged workers to Fincantieri to join him for lunch.
Napolitano also met with representatives of the port community of La Spezia, led by the chairman of the Port Authority, Lorenzo Forcieri. "His visit - Forcieri said the president - has a particular value for us, because it is a warning signal to the world of work and the community of the port, to a productive world made up of workers and companies that are committed daily by professional and innovation to create growth and opportunity in a difficult moment, characterized by the international crisis. But our country can return to a path of development and influence, only if it can be, as in the past, production engine of innovation, a crossroads of commerce and the protagonist of positive international relations. "
