Maerks Line Ltd. (MLL) and Rickmers-Linie (America) Inc., U.S. branches, respectively, the Danish shipping group AP Møller-Mærsk and Rickmers-Linie German shipping group, signed a collaboration agreement for the maritime transport of bulk and project cargo with the use of two newly built multipurpose vessels flying the flag of the United States. The joint venture will operate under the name Maersk-Rickmers U.S. Flag Carrier Project (Rickmers-Maersk).
The two ships, currently with the flag of the Marshall Islands, have a deadweight of 19,000 tons and a single maximum lift capacity of 480 tons and will be christened Maersk Maersk Illinois and Texas.
