Maersk and IBM will constitute joint venture in order to introduce the technology blockchain in the shipping and the logistics



After the agreement which signed last March from shipowning group Danish A.P. Møller-Mærsk and from the computer science company IBM with the scope to introduce the technology blockchain in the field of the marine transport of the container(on 6 March 2017), today the two parts have returned note the intention to constitute joint venture whose task will be to characterize efficient and sure modalities in order to realize this scope and the widest objective than to offer to the new applications of the technology to all the operators of the supply chain total.

The two societies have explained that joint venture, that will have center to New York, will develop a realized digital platform on the base of open and planned computer science standard for being used from the entire world of the shipping. Moreover the two partner has specified that the technology blockchain, as well as to being to the base of the new digital platform, will be used for other technologies open source based on platforms cloud offered from IMB Services with the objective to help the companies to digitally transport and to trace cargos that pass the international borders.

IBM and Maersk have specified to have begun to collaborate in the development of technologies blockchain and on platforms cloud from june 2016 and that from then the solutions realized are experimented by many organizations between which DuPont, Dow Chemical, Tetra Pak, Port Houston, Rotterdam Port Community System Portbase and the customs administrations of Holland and the United States.

Moreover, with the support of the Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the platform will be connected to the Global Quality Traceability System for the import and the export of the goods in China.
