Hapag-Lloyd closes positively a third trimester 2018 characterized lasting of difficulty in the market of the containerized marine transport



In the third trimester of this year the fleet of portacontainer of the company of German navigation Hapag-Lloyd has transported containerized cargos for a quarterly total record pairs to beyond 3,0 million teu, with an increment of +8.7% regarding 2,8 million teu transported in the period July-september of the 2017 that is the first quarterly period to include for entire the effect of the acquisition of the company United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) whose activities are included in the perimeter of consolidation of the German group beginning from on May 24, 2017(on 24 May 2017).

In the third consisting trimester of the 2018 more volume than traffics it has been that with the Latin America, routes on which the ships of Hapag-Lloyd have transported 720 thousand teu (+11%). The services of the company for Far East have transported 557 thousand teu (+11%), those transpacifici have transported 520 thousand teu (+12%), the services ocean-going liners have transported 468 thousand teu (+7%), on the routes for the Middle East are transported 361 thousand teu (+3%), on the routes intra-Asians 259 thousand teu (0%) and on the routes for Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa and Oceania 167 thousand teu (+14%).

This activity has generated altogether revenues pairs to 3,04 billion euros, with an increase of +8.6% regarding 2,80 billion euros recorded from Hapag-Lloyd in the third trimester of 2017. The revenues produced from the services with the Latin America, for which the medium hire has turned out pairs to 1.119 dollars for every container teu transported (+0.7%), is piled to 690,4 million euros (+22.8%, determined increase mainly from the increase of the services for this market). The revenues of the transpacifici services, whose medium hire has turned out of 1.268 dollars/teu (+0.1%), have totaled 564,9 million dollars (+12.0%). Relative the medium hire to the services ocean-going liners has turned out of 1.357 dollars/teu (+3.2%) and the revenues generated from these lines have been attested to 544,7 million euros (+11.6%). The revenues of the services for the Far East have been pairs to 452,1 million euros (+3.7%) and the medium hire has turned out of 948 dollars/teu (- 4.5%). The volume of transactions produced from the services for Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa and Oceania has turned out pairs to 162,0 million euros (+14.6%), with a medium hire who has been of 1.134 dollars/teu (+0.7%). The services intra-asiati us, market generally less profitable for the total containerized companies, have generated revenues pairs to 115,5 million dollars (- 16.3%) with a medium hire who has turned out of 519 dollars/teu (- 15.6%). The medium hire turning out from the activity of the entire fleet of the German company has turned out pairs to 1.055 dollars/teu, with a decrease of the -1,7% regarding 1.073 dollars/teu in the third trimester last year.

In the third trimester of the 2018 Hapag-Lloyd it has recorded a EBITDA pairs to 388,5 million euros (+8.2%), an operating profit of 212,1 million euros (+19.1%) and a profit clearly of 113,4 million euros (+118.9%).

"In the third trimester - the managing director of the company of German navigation has commented today, Rolf Habben Jansen - we have recorded a positive development and, after nine months, also a result clearly of positive group. The greater transported volumes, a better employment of our ships and the synergies deriving from the recent fusion with the UASC have allowed us to partially compensate the increase of the operating costs. Moreover relative the medium broken important hire of traffic is improved during the peak season. Although lasting of the pressure to the rise of the operating costs in various segments of our activity - it has added the CEO of Hapag-Lloyd - we continue to being cautiously optimistic for the remaining part of the year".

In the first nine months of this year the fleet of the company has transported volumes of cargo pairs to a total of 8,9 million teu, with a progression of +26.6% on the same period of 2017. The medium hire for transported container has turned out pairs to 1.032 dollars (- 3.4%). Altogether the revenues have been attested to 8,43 billion euros (+15.2%), the EBITDA are piled to 813,7 million euros (+12.6%), the EBIT to 300,8 million euros (+11.9%) and the profit clearly to 12,5 million euros (+37.4%).
