The Technical Administrative Committee of the Superintendent Interregional for Public Works for Sicily and Calabria today gave a favourable opinion on the draft of the works of dredging to restore the navigability of the mirror of the refuge port of Gela. The intervention, for a value of about 6.5 million euros, aims to return full functionality and safety when navigating within the port basin, affected by silting phenomena that in the years have progressively reduced the seabed. The project was transmitted by the Port System Authority of the Sea of Western Sicily to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport last July, for the start of the technical-economic approval.

The port authority has highlighted that with today's opinion it is positively closes one of the most delicate preliminary phases of the authorization process, since it is an area included in the site of national interest of Gela. The process now continues towards the approval of the project by the Ministry of the Environment and of Energy Security.
