Maersk Line will renew the configuration of the routes West Med - North America and Europe



The shipowning society Danish Maersk Line has announced next variations to own services of line that connect the western Mediterranean with the North America and Europe with the Middle East. For the route West Med - North America, operated from Maersk Line with the WestMed service realized in cooperation with the French CMA CGM, the Danish company has confirmed the cover of the current ports scaled in the western Mediterranean and the America North and has announced the next extension of the line to the North American ports of Charleston and Miami and to the Italian port of La Spezia.

Maersk has specified that the last spin of the WestMed service in the current configuration will be that with departure of portacontainer CMA CGM Jamaica from the port of Marsaxlokk next 27 May, with ports of call to Livorno, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Tanger Med, Newark, Norfolk, Savannah, Algeciras and conclusion to Malta on 7 July.

Maersk has explained that the new spin on the western Mediterranean route - North America will be realized through a series of lines feeder dedicated to the domestic markets connected via Algeciras to services MECL1 (ports of call: Algeciras, Newark, Charleston, Savannah, Norfolk, Newark, Algeciras) and MECL2 (ports of call: Algeciras, Newark, Savannah, Houston, Miami, Algeciras). In particular, the spin for Spain will carry out the following ports of call: Algeciras, Barcelona, Valencia, Algeciras. The Italian market will be served with the spin Italy North, ports of call to Genoa, La Spezia and Algeciras, and with the spin Italy South, ports of call to Livorno, Salerno, Naples, Marsaxlokk and Algeciras. The spin for the French market will touch Algeciras, Fos, Algeciras.

Moreover the Danish company will melt two services ME2 (ports of call: Tanger Med, Algeciras, Valencia, Barcelona, Port Saïd, Jeddah, Salalah, Jebel Ali, Dammam, Jubail, Abu Dhabi) and ME4 (ports of call: Algeciras, Tanger Med, Genoa, Jeddah, Jebel Ali, Nhava Sheva), that they connect Europe with the Middle East, in an only service that will cover also the western Mediterranean. In particular, service ME4 will be suppressed and to service ME2 they will be added touched to the port of Genoa. They will not come moreover carried out ports of call to the port of transhipment Maltese of Marsaxlokk and the new ME2 will not connect India with the western Mediterranean, route that will be covered by the new MECL1 via Algeciras.

The spin of new service ME2, that it will be realized with seven ships from 6.500 teu and that will be inaugurated next 27 May with departure from Jebel Ali, will carry out the following spin: Jebel Ali, Dammam, Jubail, Abu Dhabi, Jebel Ali, Jeddah, Port Saïd, Tanger Med, Algeciras, Valencia, Barcelona, Genoa, Port Saïd, Jeddah, Salalah, Jebel Ali. The ships employed on route ME4 will come retreats from the service beginning from the port of call of Leda Maersk to the port of Jebel Ali of next 25 May.

At last Maersk Line has announced the employment of ships of greater ability in the Europe service - Middle East/India ME3, that it will continue to carry out ports of call to Pipavav, Hazira, Nhava Sheva, Jebel Ali, Salalah, Port Saïd, Mersina, Ambarli, Izmit Korfezi, Port Saïd, Jeddah, Jebel Ali, Pipavav. In service ME3 six Panamax ships will be employed with a greater number of connections for container refrigerator.
