Fincantieri signs agreements with J.A. Solutions, Navantia and Naval Group
Intense with the Danish company in the field of advanced modular and containerized systems for reconfigurable naval units
Parigi
November 5, 2026
On the occasion of Euronaval 2026, the international exhibition on the
maritime security and technologies for the
ongoing in Paris, Fincantieri has signed a series of
agreements. The first is with J.A. Solutions, a company
Danish company specialized in the design and construction of
containers, modules and handling systems tailored to
commercial and defense applications. The letter of intent provides for
the development of strategic industrial collaboration in the field of
of advanced modular and containerized systems per unit
naval reconfigurable. Combining Fincantieri's experience in the
Design, construction and integration of naval units
with J.A. Solutions' specialized expertise in
modular systems, this collaboration aims to explore
New technologies designed to improve reconfigurability
and expand their range of missions. The experience of
J.A. Solutions includes, in particular, the integration of a wide range of
range of mission-specific payloads, including
drones, sensors, decoy systems, communication equipment and
as well as the development of the necessary interfaces
for full integration of containerized payloads with
naval infrastructure.
The collaboration will focus on the evaluation of
technical and operational requirements, the adaptation of existing systems and
the development of new solutions, while also exploring
potential business opportunities in the markets
international agreements. The agreement also provides for the possibility of
Fincantieri to participate in the share capital of J.A. Solutions,
with the aim of further strengthening collaboration and
links of the Italian group with the Danish industrial ecosystem,
characterized by a highly specialized know-how in the field of
modularity and reconfiguration of naval units.
On the occasion of the French boat show, Fincantieri also presented
presented the new Multi-Mission Modular Vessel (MMMV), which
introduces a new approach to platform design
"one hull, multiple missions": instead of
building a ship designed for a predefined mission, Fincantieri
has developed a platform designed to accommodate and adapt
to multiple missions. Thanks to a highly modular architecture
Flexible and open, the ship can accommodate different loads
containerized utilities, allowing you to customize their
configuration according to specific operational needs.
Designed as a compact, small-crewed platform and
highly versatile, the MMMV, 50 meters long, has a displacement of
500 tons and requires a basic crew of only six people.
Accommodates containerized operating modules of 10 or 20
foot, allowing for rapid dock reconfiguration in a
wide range of operational scenarios. This architecture allows
platform to support missions ranging from security
maritime law enforcement -
including the fight against illicit trafficking and piracy - up to the
intelligence gathering, underwater operations,
communications intelligence, the protection of
critical maritime infrastructure and combat missions.
Modular payloads can integrate a wide range of systems, including
such as stray munitions, aerial and underwater drones, launch systems and
recovery and other mission-specific support modules.
Fincantieri has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the
Navantia for the establishment of a 50:50 joint venture for the
respective national programmes on the European Patrol Corvette (EPC)
and the related export opportunities. The signature represents a
further step forward in cooperation between the complexes
following the memorandum of
Understanding signed last February
(
of 26
February 2026). The heads of agreement contains the agreements
reached by the parties and provides the framework for the
for the negotiation of the final documentation on the joint
venture.
The joint venture will form the heart of the EPC programme,
assuming overall responsibility for its development, and
acting as a contracting entity for the
related contracts. It will also bring together the main activities of the
industrial and commercial necessary for the realization of the
programmes, ranging from the coordination of
functional design engineering and procurement of
common elements of naval units up to the models of
co-production, life cycle support and opportunities
while promoting greater standardisation
of the platform relating to the naval units themselves.
Navantia and Fincantieri intend to involve in the joint venture
other European partners such as the French Naval Group, currently
during the accession assessment phase, integrating within it the
respective national EPC shipbuilding programmes.
Fincantieri, together with Naval Group itself and Navantia
have signed the consortium agreement for the second phase of EPC
(EPC2) which strengthens the collaboration between the three European manufacturers
and marks the transition from the initial design phase to a
Future class of Modular and Multirole Patrol Corvette (MMPC) ready
for production. Launched in 2019 as part of the Cooperation
Permanent Structured Structure (PESCO) of the European Union and coordinated by
OCCAR as of 2022, the MMPC program is intended for the
development of a new generation of naval platforms capable of
to meet the constantly evolving operational requirements of
European navies.
The signature stems from the results of EPC1, focused on the study of the
concept, preliminary naval design, technology development
key frameworks, as well as the definition of methodologies, standards and requirements
municipalities. EPC2 will help to steer the programme towards the
industrialization phase by completing the preliminary design
and detailed of the units, while integrating a series of
of innovative technologies. The programme will develop a
Common Full Combat Multipurpose (FCM) platform that will constitute
The basis for a new class of corvettes. Thanks to a design
modular and adaptable, the EPC project will allow navies
Participating military personnel to adapt the platform to the specifications
operational needs, while maintaining high levels of
interoperability, standardization and homogeneity.
