Agreement Maersk - IBM in order to introduce the technology blockchain in the logistic chain of the containerized marine transport



Shipowning group Danish A.P. Møller-Mærsk and the American computer science company IBM have tightened an agreement in order to collaborate with the scope to introduce the technology blockchain in the logistic chain of the containerized marine transport. The understanding follows the announcement of the slid autumn of the computer science colossus American who had returned note the intention to invest 200 million dollars in the new total center of Monk for the development of the technologies Watson Internet of Things (IoT), for the connection in net between various objects, extracting given from billions of sensors incorporated in machinery, car, droni and equipment.

Between the solutions developed from IBM is the new functionality in order to connect the data of the "Internet of the things" Watson IoT to blockchain, the distributed database introduced from the Bitcoin currency that, through the construction of an increasing list of record ("chain of blocks"), records all the transactions that happen inside a net. The agreement which signed from IBM and Maersk previews the realization of a solution blockchain that it will be dedicated to the field of the marine transport and the logistics and that will be based on Hyperledger Fabric, the project open source of the Linux Foundation, of which IBM is one of the charter members, for the implementation of the technology blocktrain. IBM and Maersk have emphasized that the new solution will allow the management and tracking of fleets of tens of million container and the sharing safely of information between the partner commercial. Moreover, second the promoters of the initiative, the new solution will allow with the field potential savings in the order of varied billions of dollars.

IBM and Maersk have specified that they will work with loaders, shippers, companies of navigation, carry and customs authorities with the scope to create a solution for the digitalisation of the traffics and the commercial exchanges that will be introduced in the course of this year and that it will allow to reduce the number of swindles and errors, to diminish the times of the shipment procedures and to improve the management of the warehouses and the fleets.
