The Port Authority of Savona has announced that last month the port has seen significant signs of recovery in traffic, if it is still not entirely positive assessment of the first part of 2011 conditioned by lower arrivals of bulk solid minerals, oil and by a decline in container traffic.
Last month the Port of Savona Vado has handled 1,348,000 tons of goods, an increase of 14.2% compared to July 2010. The port authority said it continued to get in the traffic light to dock in the basin of Savona (+17.6%), while a reversal of the trend has affected the arrivals of coal and crude petroleum (+18.7 ). Even the activity of the Reefer Terminal (fruit) was reported at levels not far from those in the corresponding period last year: 211,000 tons against 238,000 of the 2010 (-10%).
Last month was in the passenger sector exceeded 156,000, including 55,596 cruise passengers (+13%) and 100,216 ferry passengers (+20%).The Port Authority has indicated that the activity of the ferry terminal has been positively affected since June 24 from the line Go-Porto Torres managed by the Sardinian regional company will be.
In the first seven months of 2011 the port handled a total of Ligurian 8,445,000 tons of freight, a decrease of 2.9% over the corresponding period last year. The decline was primarily attributable to lower arrivals of coal (-250 000 tonnes) and oil (-197 000 tonnes). On both types of bulk cargo - said the port authority - have weighed external events (the turmoil in North African countries for oil) and economic (the prolonged depression of production which has reduced the demand for thermal energy by limiting the demand for coal for the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Power). The Reefer Terminal in Vado has handled 405,000 tons of fruit in front of 447,000 tons in January-July 2010 (-9.5%). Good performance record made from steel (+25%), forest products (+24%), cereals (+23%) and growing traffic of oil palm to the terminal of the Coastal Deposits (+130%), where they are operating two new large silos.
In the container sector has been an increase of 3% of the traffic in the first seven months of 2011, while in July only traffic in this sector decreased by 27%.
