In the first half of 2011 the traffic of goods in the port system in Amsterdam, comprising the ports of Amsterdam, Beverwijk, IJmuiden and Zaanstad, amounted to over 46 million tons of goods, an increase of 3% compared to 44.7 million tons handled in the first half of last year. The Port of Amsterdam has announced that traffic has grown particularly strongly in the second quarter of 2011, an increase of 10.5% over the second quarter of 2010.
In the first six months of this year the only port of Amsterdam has handled 37.5 million tons, with an increase of 5.7% in the first half of 2010, while traffic decreased by 8% in Ijmuiden about 8 , 3 million tons. A handled 145 thousand tons were Beverwijk (+4%) and 66 thousand tons Zaanstad (+71%).
