Ok of the Slovenian government to the modernization of the railway connection between the port of Koper and the home markets



Friday the Slovenian government has approved of the construction of a new railway line that will connect the port of Koper to Divaccia, indispensable project in order to modernize the railway connection between the Slovenian port and the outback that currently is entrusted to an which electrified railway line to only railroad that is obsolete, it anticipate tenici limits and it often comes interrupted for interventions of maintenance and modernization.

The project approved of from the executive previews that the construction of the new line, also it to only railroad with the possibility of future potenziamento to binary double quantity, is carried out between 2019 and 2025 for being inaugurated at the beginning of 2026. The cost of the realization of the railway infrastructure is estimated of 1,194 billion euros. The project is promoted by the 2TDK, society of property of constituted State in March 2016.

The project entirely will be paid by the users of Slovenian infrastructures of transport, with resources that will come from increases of the highway tolls, increases of the rates for the use of railway infrastructures and from increases of the taxes the port of Koper. As for the financing of the construction works, if the project will not obtain deep from the near nations, the Slovenian government will finance the project with a total of 522 million euros, of which 122 million euros collected through an increase of coming the highway rates and 200 million from the capital of the 2TDK (or 400 million if the bordering nations will not contribute financially to the project). The remaining quota necessary in order to cover the costs of the project will come from institutions European financial institutions, that they will contribute with 250 million euros, to which international financial institutions will join to 250 million euros from other institutions and the Slovenian bank for the development and the SID Bank exports and 167 million euros from commercial banks. To this six will be added million euros generated from the increase of the railway rates.

The second railway line will be long 27 kilometers and will have an ability, included the current which electrified line, of 231 trains to the day and 43,4 million tons of goods per year.
