
In the first three months of 2026, the ports of Naples and Salerno
handled 7.60 million tons of goods globally, with a
slight decrease of -0.7% which was determined by the decline
-5.3% in the airport of the Campania capital alone, where
4.38 million tons handled, which was almost
entirely offset by the growth of +6.4% in Salerno where the
total was 3.22 million tons.
With regard to the port of Naples, the quarterly decrease was
was determined by the year-on-year contraction in traffic in
all three months, with a reduction of 7.1% in January, -5.0%
in February and -3.9% last March. In the first three months of 2026
the total traffic of general goods was 2.60
million tonnes (-8.2%), of which 1.81 million tonnes of
containerized goods (+0.9%) made with a handling of
containers equal to 167,433 TEUs (-3.5%) and 793 thousand tons of
rolling stock (-23.9%). There was also a decrease in
Solid bulk traffic which fell to 308 thousand
tons (-7.6%), of which 104 thousand tons of products
metallurgical (-18.1%), 101 thousand tons of cereals (+3.7%) and
103 thousand tons of other cargo (-5.6%). Liquid bulk is
increased by +0.9% to 1.47 million tonnes, including 1.10 million tonnes
million tonnes of refined petroleum products (+1.0%),
325 thousand tons of gaseous, liquefied or
compressed and natural gas (-0.7%) and 40 thousand tons of other
liquid bulk (-12.8%).
In Salerno, the quarterly traffic of miscellaneous goods is
state of 3.12 million tons (+6.6%), of which 1.67 million tons
tonnes of rolling stock (+6.2%), 1.19 million tonnes of freight
in containers (+5.6%) totalled with a handling of
containers equal to 101,509 TEUs (+7.8%) and 257 thousand tons of other
miscellaneous goods (+14.9%). In the dry bulk sector,
100 thousand tons handled (+0.6%).
In the first quarter of 2026, passenger traffic in the
scheduled services in the port of Naples was 822 thousand
people (-4.8%), of which 87 thousand ferry passengers (-30.0%) and
735 thousand of local services (-0.6%). In Salerno, passengers of the
ferries were 20 thousand (-2.0%) and the passengers of the services
33 thousand local (-12.8%). In addition, traffic in the port of Naples
cruise was 127 thousand passengers, with an increase
+67.9% on the first quarter of 2025 determined by the strong increase
of passengers in transit stood at 106 thousand units
(+103.4%), while passengers disembarking and embarking amounted to
to 20 thousand units (-12.0%). In Salerno, cruise passengers were
less than two thousand (+25.3%), almost all in transit.
