Forte incremento degli ordinativi per i cantieri navali giapponesi nei primi otto mesi di quest'anno. Le statistiche della Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA) rivelano che nel periodo gli stabilimenti nazionali hanno ottenuto commesse per la costruzione di 116 navi per un totale di 5.442.570 tonnellate di stazza lorda, con un incremento del 58,6% sullo stesso periodo del 1999.
Nei primi otto mesi inoltre il ministero dei Trasporti di Tokyo ha validato ordini per la realizzazione di 144 navi, per complessive 4.741.429 tonnellate di stazza lorda.
