TRIESTE, IN NINE MONTHS THE PORT TRAFFIC HAS RECORDED 11.86% INCREMENT
The container traffic has registered 129,338 teu loaded and discharged (954,273 tons of goods)

In September, the Port of Trieste recordered a favourable trend in container traffic with 13,889 teu handled. From January to September 1996, 129,338 teu were loaded and discharged (+15.83%), totalling 954,273 tons.
The commercial port has recorded a +18,02% increase, since the beginning of the year, with 6,931,949 tons handled as against the 5,873,689 tons in the same period of 1995.
The trends of the specific sectors are the following:

goods transported by ferry boats +24.95 %
conventional and bulk cargo +17.35 %
In the Customs Port (Stazione Marittima), the ferry traffic to and from Greece has recorded an increase of 26.75% in transited passengers, 56.86% in trucks, 24.77% in passengers' cars and 55.12% in transported goods.
Industrial traffic increased by 10% in the considered period. The activity of the "Ferriera di Servola" ironworks was favourable (1,291,992 tons in 1996 with almost one million tons more than in the first nine momths of 1995); the SIOT terminal, with its 22,428,906 tons, has recorded an increase of almost 6% in the raw mineral oil percentages discharged in 1995. The activity of Canale di Zaule was favourable with 538,459 tons handled.

From january to September 1996, the overall traffic at the Port of Trieste increased by more than 3,300,000 tons (31,544,785 in the considered period as against the 28,199,645 tons of 1995) with a 11.86% increment.
