Il gruppo crocieristico statunitense Carnival Corporation & plc ha archiviato il trimestre marzo-maggio di quest'anno con un utile netto di 332 milioni di dollari su un ricavo di 2,3 miliardi di dollari, contro un utile pro forma di 124 milioni di dollari su un ricavo pro forma di 1,6 miliardi di dollari nel corrispondente periodo del 2003. Il risultato operativo si è attestato a 405 milioni di dollari (167 milioni nel periodo marzo-maggio del 2003).
La comparazione evidenziata è quella con i risultati pro forma del 2003 che includono l'attività di Carnival plc (ex P&O Princess plc) nell'intero trimestre marzo-maggio. Ricordiamo infatti che il 17 aprile 2003 Carnival Corporation e la britannica P&O Princess plc hanno costituito la dual listed company denominata Carnival Corporation & plc e P&O Princess plc ha cambiato ragione sociale in Carnival plc (inforMARE del 16 aprile 2003). Il bilancio consolidato del periodo marzo-maggio del 2003 include quindi solo sei settimane dei risultati di Carnival plc, mentre i dati pro forma presentati da Carnival Corporation & plc includono i risultati delle due società dall'inizio del 2003.
Commentando oggi i risultati registrati dal gruppo crocieristico, il presidente e amministratore delegato di Carnival Corporation & plc, Micky Arison, ha detto che le previsioni per la parte restante del 2004 e per l'inizio del 2005 sono positive. Il livello delle prenotazioni per il secondo semestre di quest'anno - ha precisato - è notevolmente superiore al livello del 2003 e i prezzi delle crociere mostrano una continua crescita.
