Nel primo semestre di quest'anno il porto di Hong Kong ha registrato una movimentazione container pari a 10.605.000 teu, con una progressione dell'8% rispetto allo stesso periodo del 2003. Il volume movimentato, che rappresenta il dato definitivo del traffico container realizzato nei primi sei mesi dallo scalo asiatico e che è stato reso noto oggi dall'Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, presenta 326.000 teu in meno rispetto al primo consuntivo semestrale pubblicato dall'Hong Kong Port Development Council (inforMARE del 15 luglio 2004).
Nonostante questa correzione al ribasso Hong Kong si conferma al vertice della classifica dei porti container mondiali anche nella prima metà del 2004. Ancora una volta Hong Kong lascia alle sue spalle il porto di Singapore, che nei primi sei mesi di quest'anno ha movimentato 10,2 milioni di teu (inforMARE del 30 luglio 2004)).
Al terzo posto della graduatoria figura ora un porto cinese: lo scalo sudcoreano di Busan, che in precedenza occupava questa posizione, è stato infatti scavalcato sia da Shanghai che da Shenzhen, che hanno movimentato rispettivamente 6,7 e 6,0 milioni di teu, mentre Busan è sceso a poco più di 5,5 milioni di teu.
Nel primo semestre di quest'anno il porto di Hong Kong ha totalizzato complessivamente un traffico merci di 110,8 milioni di tonnellate, con un incremento del 10% rispetto al corrispondente periodo del 2003. Gli sbarchi sono aumentati del 9% a 68,6 milioni di tonnellate, mentre gli imbarchi sono cresciuti del 12% a 42,2 milioni di tonnellate.
Nel secondo semestre di quest'anno Hong Kong ha movimentato 55,3 milioni di tonnellate di merci, con un incremento dell'8% rispetto allo stesso periodo dello scorso anno. Importazioni ed esportazioni sono aumentate rispettivamente del 10% e del 6% a 34,6 milioni di tonnellate e a 20,7 milioni di tonnellate.
Per quanto riguarda il solo traffico containerizzato, nel periodo aprile-giugno di quest'anno Hong Kong ha registrato una movimentazione pari a 5.403.000 milioni di teu (+6%), ancora una volta superiore al totale fatto registrare dal porto di Singapore, che nel periodo ha movimentato 5.358.000 teu ma che ha mostrato però un tasso di progressione (+18,7%) più elevato che gli ha consentito di ridurre notevolmente il divario con il concorrente Hong Kong e che fa prevede un prossimo cambio al vertice nella lista dei porti container mondiali.
