Hapag-Lloyd has closed the first trimester of 2018 with a net loss of -34,3 million euros



In the first three months of this year the revenues of the company of German navigation Hapag-Lloyd are piled to 2,62 billion euros, with an increment of +22.7% regarding 2,13 billion euros in the first trimester of 2017. The increase is due essentially to the contribution of the volume of transactions generated from the activities previously operated by the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), company that has melted with the Hapag-Lloyd with effect from on May 24, 2017(on 24 May 2017). The EBITDA is piled to 219,4 million euros (+62.2%) and the operating profit has attested to 45,7 million euros respect to an operating result of sign negative for -0,1 million euros in the first trimester last year. Hapag-Lloyd has closed the first trimester of the 2018 with a net loss of -34,3 million euros respect to a net loss of -58,1 million euros in the correspondent period of 2017.

In the first three months of this year the fleet of portacontainer of the Hapag-Lloyd, constituted from 221 ships for a cargo ability pairs to 2,38 million teu, has transported cargo volumes pairs to 2,86 million teu, with a progression of +47.9% regarding 1,93 million teu in the first trimester of 2017 when the fleet was constituted by 172 ships for an ability of 1,58 million teu (given of traffic that does not include the volumes transported from the ships of the UASC). The medium hire for transported container teu has turned out pairs to 1.029 dollars, down regarding 1.047 dollars/teu in the first three months last year.

On the sun broken Atlantic they are transported 439 thousand teu and the medium hire has turned out of 1.293 dollars (respective 389 thousand teu and 1,293 dollars/teu in the first trimester of 2017), on the routes with the Latin America the traffic has been of 663 thousand teu and the medium hire of 1.130 dollars/teu (552 thousand teu - 1,017 dollars/teu), the services with Far East have transported 519 thousand teu and the medium hire has been of 897 dollars/teu (215 thousand teu - 897 dollars/teu), on the transpacifiche routes the traffic has been of 455 thousand teu with a medium hire of 1.250 dollars/teu (386 thousand teu - 1,218 dollars/teu), on the routes intra-Asians are transported 257 thousand teu and the medium hire has been of 522 dollars/teu (152 thousand teu - 539 dollars/teu), the services with the Middle East have transported 375 thousand teu with a medium hire of 783 dollars/teu (123 thousand teu - 791 dollars/teu) and the services with Mediterranean Europe/, Africa and Oceania have transported 152 thousand teu with a medium hire of 1.081 dollars/teu (117 thousand teu - 1,010 dollars/teu).

"We have had - the managing director of the German company, Rolf Habben has said, commenting the results of first trimester 2018 - a good beginning of year, but the context of the market is challenging. The hires have turned out under pressure, the costs of the bunker and the costs of the road haulage in some important markets are increased and we have been confronted with a weakening of the dollar, even if the increase of the transported volumes and the synergies has supported the results. We expect a gradual improvement of the market in the course of 2018, but the effect of this improvement will be only perceived in the results of the second half of the year".
