Nello scorso ottobre il porto di Long Beach ha movimentato 434.866 teu, con un incremento dello 0,5% rispetto allo stesso mese del 2000, di cui 238.184 teu allo sbarco (+1,1%), 82.255 all'imbarco (-7,1%) e 114.427 vuoti (+5,1%). Si tratta del traffico container più elevato registrato in ottobre dal porto californiano. Permangono però in difficoltà le esportazioni, che sono risultate in calo per il dodicesimo mese consecutivo. «Ottobre - ha spiegato il manager dell'ente portuale di Long Beach, Richard D. Steinke - è storicamente uno dei mesi più trafficati, quando elevati volumi di merci destinate al periodo delle vacanze passa attraverso il porto. Quando i negozianti piazzano questi ordinativi prevedono che le vendite durante le vacanze di quest'anno saranno simili a quelle dello scorso anno». Steinke ha detto che l'impatto sui traffici portuali degli attacchi terroristici negli Stati Uniti non è ancora del tutto chiaro: «gli ordinativi per le spedizioni di ottobre - ha spiegato - sono stati probabilmente staccati prima dell'11 settembre. Così le nostre previsioni sui prossimi mesi e per l'economia mondiale sono tuttora incerte». In ottobre invece il porto di Los Angeles ha totalizzato un traffico container pari a 505.020 teu, con un incremento del 4,88% rispetto allo stesso mese del 2000. I container importati sono risultati 265.722 (+5,92%), quelli esportati 90.827 (-3,16%) e quelli vuoti 148.471 (+8,51%). |
