In 2011 the port of Salerno expects more than 120 thousand cruise passengers. This was announced by the Port Authority of the port field that this year will participate for the first time at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping, the largest international exhibition of the cruise sector to be held in Miami March 14 to 17 next. In 2010, cruise traffic in the port of Salerno has recorded a total of about 100 thousand passengers, tripling the 2009 scheduling.
The approximately 120 thousand cruise passengers this year will come from April to October, during which 50 airports are expected to cruise ships. Nevertheless, the start of work on works to enable the port of Salerno to accommodate cargo ships and cruise liners that provide the next-generation extension of the Molo Manfredi and implementation of the Maritime Station, designed by architect Zaha Hadid.
