The Authority of Harbour System of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea has introduced this morning in Management Committee a proposal of Technical Adaptation Functional (ATF) to the Harbour Regulatory Plan of Piombino, to translate into concrete works the agreement of program on the iron and steel pole signed in February 2025, which aims to unite mass in environmental security, industrial conversion and economic development in a single program, identifying the extraordinary commissioner

The ATF provides for a reorganization of North Darsena and Avamporto, articulated in several interventions. In particular, the West Bank of North Darsena is backed by 105 meters, while the North Bench is extended by the same measure. There is also an anti-clockwise rotation to the west of the North West Bank, which determines a different configuration of the water area and the realization of a new dock, called West Darsena. As evidenced in the planimetry, these changes involve a reduction of the ground surfaces of relevance of the two docks and a corresponding extension of the water mirror. At the same time, the east side of the existing pier LUSID remains outside the terminal area and maintains its availability as a northern front.

In the ATF are also deepened the seabeds programmed by a minimum of -13 meters on the Darsena Lucchini to a maximum of -16 meters on the west dock, passing from the -15 meters of deepening in proximity to the North West dock, resulting in decrease of the previewed volumes of dredging, an option that becomes necessary for an adaptation to the previewed dimensions of the new ships that will enjoy the harbour areas.

The other two strategic elements are the recovery inside the harbour area of the former area Mineral Parks, returned in the full availability of the AdSP in 2023 and inserted in the Simplified Logistics Zone of Tuscany, and the optimization of the system of gates and accesses to the passenger terminal with the realization of a new terrapino of the first section of the expansion to the south of the battery Pier for which is previewed the use of sediments of dredging in order in order

Presenting the ATF the president of the AdSP, Davide Gariglio, has evidenced that "with this adaptation we put the port of Piombino in step with the real needs of the territory: infrastructure proportioned to traffic, used areas better and attention to the environment. It is a concrete step - it has emphasized - for industrial conversion and for the future of Piombino".
