Contest for the management of the area Puerto Nuevo of the port of Buenos Aires



Monday the Argentine government has started a procedure of national and international contest in order to characterize an enterprise to which entrusting in concession the management of the harbour area Puerto Nuevo of the port of Buenos Aires, that it is situated in the northern part of the port of call and that is characterized with the provision n. 97 on September 7, 2016 of the Ministry of Transportation. The contest has been indetta in the within of the plan of harbour modernization of Buenos Aires that previews an investment public and private total of 1.910 million dollars over 50 years.

The concession contract, of the extended duration 35-year-old of others 15, previews that in the course of the first 10 years the private society invests 760 million dollars in works, while in the same period the State will spend 300 million.

For being able to start the contest the delay until May 2020 of contracts of concession of the terminalisti is decided that currently manage terminal in the area. These societies are the Terminales Río de Plata (TRP), that it is participated by the terminalista group DP World of Dubay and by local investor and that manages Terminals 1, 2 and 3, Dutch APM Terminals of shipowning group Danish A.P. Møller-Mærsk, that it manages Terminal 4, and Hutchison Ports BACTSSA of the terminalista group Hutchison Ports di Hong Kong who manages Terminal 5. To these Terminal 6 joins, than it has not still found a manager, and the terminal cruises Quinquela Martín, both part of the area put in contest from the government

In the first ten months of this year the containerized trade enlivened from these terminals is piled to 835 thousand teu, with a progression of +15% on the correspondent period of 2017.

With the completion of the terminalistiche areas of the Puerto Nuevo and the new investments one previews that the ability to containerized trade of the Argentine port will go up from 1,4 million teu in 2020 to 2,7 million teu in 2030.

"Argentina, regarding the countries of the region - it has emphasized the minister of the Transports, Guillermo Dietrich - is behind in the development of its foreign trade: our traffic of the goods is diminished in last the 10 years, while the bordering ports of Brazil and Uruguay grew. We are inverting this tendency with a federal port that has stopped of unproductive being and is beginning to grow, made that it has determined remarkablly a lowering of the costs of export and import. A port that has made great investments as the start of fillings of the river in order to obtain new areas. This project is another step in this direction, so that the country grows and developments increasing its commerce with the world. And the infrastructures must accompany this increase. From here this mega project that we are developing from the beginning of our management and that it completes the Paseo of the Bajo, with new railway accesses and a future terminal cruises".

In charge of the General Administration of the Ports, Gonzálo Mórtola, it has remembered that the project "already is begun, with beyond 10 hectares conquered to the river, the completion of the breakwaters and other work that optimizes the intermodal logistics of the nation".
