Last month, container traffic in the port of Hong Kong
grew by +9.1% on February 2024 having been equal to
984 thousand TEUs. An increase, however, which refers to one month,
February 2024, when, as in February 2025, it had been moved
a volume of containerized traffic of less than one million TEUs,
a threshold below which the Chinese port of call has fallen only two
times in the last 25 years. If February for the Port of Hong Kong is
a month often of reduced activity in consideration of the
Chinese New Year festivities that usually take place in
between January and February and this year they were held from 29
January to 12 February, so much so that to go back to a third volume of
monthly traffic of less than one million containers, you have to go to the
February 1999 when 911 thousand TEUs had been handled, however
The increase recorded last month is part of the trend
negative situation that has been underway for the airport since the crisis
2008-2009.
In the first two months of 2025, traffic in Hong Kong is
amounted to 2.12 million TEUs, with a decrease of -2.3% on the first two
months of last year.
