2025 has started uphill for the port system
of Western Liguria formed by the ports of Genoa and
Savona-Vado Ligure which in the first month of the year moved
5.14 million tons of goods, with a decrease of -6.2% on the
January 2024. The decline in traffic was particularly pronounced
in the port of the Ligurian capital which handled a total of 3.73
million tonnes (-10.7%), of which 2.79 million tonnes
in the Genoa-Sampierdarena basin (-12.8%) and 938 thousand tons in the
port basin of Pra' (-3.5%). In Savona-Vado, on the other hand, traffic

overall growth of +8.1% having amounted to
1.40 million tonnes, an increase that was generated by the
volumes of 500 thousand tons handled in the port basin of
Savona (+9.6%) and 401 thousand tons handled in the Vado basin
Liguria (+121.5%) which was held back by the decrease in
-24.0% of oil traffic handled at the Vado roadstead
which was 502 thousand tons.
In addition, the overall reduction in traffic handled by the
port system in January 2025 was determined by the
decrease in liquid and dry bulk in the sector
industrial as well as the decline in conventional goods. In the
liquid cargo sector, 1.59 million
tons of mineral oils (-24.5%), 32 thousand tons of oils
vegetables and wine (-36.4%) and 23 thousand tons of chemicals
(-45,5%). The traffic of conventional goods has been
918 thousand tons (-16.2%). Solid bulk in the sector
amounted to 319 thousand tons (+55.6%). In the
Container segment total was 2.14 million
tons (+18.2%), a volume that was achieved with a
handling of containers equal to 231,456 TEUs (+16.4%).
Last January, passenger traffic in the two ports
-8.1% due to the significant decrease
of cruise passengers, amounting to 78 thousand units, partially
offset by the +2.8% increase in ferry passengers
rose to 68 thousand units.
