Vessels required to give no-pollution guarantee, assessment of hull integrity

(SINGAPORE) A ship in distress in the Singapore Strait will be denied a 'safe haven' or 'place of refuge' in Singapore port waters unless it meets a series of stringent requirements, Transport Minister Yeo Cheow Tong indicated yesterday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the International Chemical and Oil Pollution Conference and Exhibition, the minister said a vessel in distress must meet at least two key criteria before it would be granted refuge in port waters
