Completed the last step towards the final adoption of the standards on the emissions of co2 of the airplane



After six years of negotiations, yesterday the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the agency of the United Nations that it supervises to the development of the technologies of the air navigation, has approved of unanimously the new standards on the carbon dioxide emissions of the aircrafts, whose definitive adoption will have to be ratified from the 36 States that take part of the directive council of the ICAO.

The new standards on the emissions of co2 would not be only applied to the projects of airplane of new aerial type beginning from 2020, but also beginning from 2023 to the new airplane delivered to the companies and constructed on the base of the current productive technologies. Moreover the agreement recommends 2028 which date limit for I use it of aircrafts that are not consistent to the new standards.

"The objective of this procedure - the directive Prime Minister of the ICAO, Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu has explained - is, in the final analysis to guarantee that when will enter in service the next generation of aircrafts will be assured a reduction of the emissions of co2 to international level. Currently - Aliu has remembered - our field represents less of 2% of the annual emissions of co2 world-wise, but however we realize that the previewed doubling of passengers and total flights within 2030 must be managed in responsible and sustainable way".

"This agreement - it has emphasized the European commissioner to the Transports, Violeta Bulc - is an important step towards the reduction of the emissions of the aerial transport. Climatic politics ambitious are part integrating of the plan of the Commission in order to create a Union on the Energy and a priority of the new strategy on the aerial transport. The EU has carried out a central role in mediating this agreement, as it has made to the COP21 to Paris. I confide that this will give an ulterior impulse for the creation of a total measure based on the market in order to compensate the emissions of co2 of the transports international airplane, that we wish to reach this autumn to the shareholders' meeting of the ICAO". The agreement reached yesterday, in fact, will be subordinate to 39the assembly of the ICAO in program to september in order then to be formally adopted from the council of the ICAO in the first months of 2017.

Satisfaction for the attainment of the agreement is expressed also by the administrator of the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): "we are encouraged by this success - Michael Huerta has commented - and believe that it places to us on a promising distance in order to do so as in the next few months that it can be agreed an effective measure based on the market".
