  • Hai Sun Hup launches shipping, logistics unit
[SINGAPORE] The newly created Singapore Shipping Corporation (SSC), the shipping and logistics operations of the listed Hai Sun Hup Group, was officially launched yesterday in a sea of confidence for its future.
  • Marketing of Singapore's biggest maritime trade show starts
  • Cost overruns may shave Newport News' profit
Air and Land Transport
  • UPS gets green light to operate flights to China
[BEIJING] United Parcel Service Inc (UPS) beat rivals to become the only new US company approved by the US Department of Transportation to operate more flights to China, the fastest growing market for freight and passenger traffic.
  • BA wants to increase flights to India
  • Ex-F1 champion Lauda quits as CEO of his airline
  • No mechanics' strike before Christmas: United
  • A South Korean jet flies to Taipei after 8 years
Features
  • Mitsui OSK sails into prosperous waters
IT has already been known for some time: most shipping lines are doing better. The loss-making times seem to be over and done with for the majority of the world's carriers. CMA, CGM, NOL or ACL could serve as good examples of this trend, but also Maersk Sealand, which has evidently already (gotten over) the effort of taking over Sea Land after two years. Out of the major trades, the most noteworthy are the Pacific routes and those between Europe and the Far East, where the shipping lines are profiting from generally higher rates.
Logistics
  • Odd bedfellows for a strong future
IT has been predicted that there would be two types of consolidation in the forwarding and logistics businesses.
