Maersk Drilling, the company of the Danish shipping group AP Møller-Mærsk, has become the order option with the South Korean group Samsung marine mechanics Heavy Industries (SHI) for the construction of two other drilling vessels in deep water. The investment for the two ships, which will be taken over in the second and third quarter of 2014 amounted to approximately $ 1.3 billion.
The two new units, which will be similar to the two drilling vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries Company in April this year ( of 6 April 2011), will be 228 meters long, can operate at depths up to 12,000 feet (3,650 meters) and will be able to drill up to 40,000 feet (12,200 meters).
Maersk Drilling - said the company's CEO, Claus V.Hemmingsen - "has the ambition to become a leading drilling contractors in the deep water segment and this order is a further important step to gain a greater share of this attractive market segment."
