Today, the Danish shipping group DFDS and French Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) have presented a joint bid to acquire certain assets of SeaFrance, the French railway company SNCF group that a year ago was placed in receivership and operates a sea connection for freight and passengers between the ports of Dover and Calais.
DFDS and LDA did not specify in which goods and activities SeaFrance refers the offer, but made it known that if the initiative proves successful will form a joint venture with DFDS as majority shareholder, will acquire the assets of SeaFrance. DFDS also transfer to the joint venture its service Dover to Dunkirk, while LDA will transfer to the new company its ferry services operated by subsidiary LD Lines Portsmouth-Le Havre routes, Saint-Nazaire-Gijon, Newhaven-Dieppe and Marseille-Tunis.
Last year, SeaFrance has transported 2.9 million passengers and 551,000 freight units. The company has a fleet consisting of the three ro-pax molere SeaFrance, SeaFrance Berlioz and SeaFrance Rodin and the ro-ro SeaFrance Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
