The U.S. cruise line Royal Caribbean International (Royal Caribbean Cruises Group) has signed an agreement with the Government of the Chinese city of Xiamen and China with the World Cruises (CWC) which provides for rental for a period of four months, during 2012, the cruise ship Legend of the Seas, the American company, which will be used in China.
The agreement, which involves the CWC, a company wholly controlled by the Shan-Hai-Shu in Beijing, following a cooperation agreement signed last June that requires the hiring of partners from the Chinese ships of Royal Caribbean International with the objective to operate 21 cruises, including 13 as a home port with Xiamen. The agreement also calls for a Royal Caribbean International cruise terminal, and projects a cruise ship of 100,000 gross tons to Xiamen.
For its part the CWC is planning to invest around five billion dollars to make the "Homeport Cruise City," an area on the waterfront will be built in Xiamen, where commercial centers, hotels, condominiums and a cruise terminal with four docks.
The Legend of the Seas cruises, as well as Xiamen, will depart from the ports of Shanghai, Tianjin and Hong Kong and will touch places in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam. The first cruise will be made starting March 20, 2012 from Hong Kong, while the first departure from the port of Xiamen will be performed March 26, 2012.
According to arrangements made in June, from July 2012 Royal Caribbean International will operate in China even the cruise ship Voyager of the Seas departing from Shanghai and Tianjin with several destinations including Fukuoka and Kobe, Japan and Busan and Jeju in Korea.
