In the port of Rotterdam the marine and fluvial traffic that passes through the port of call per year generates carbon dioxide emissions pairs to about 25 million tons. It reveals a search that the Harbour Authority of the Dutch port of call has introduced today to Rotterdam in the course of the convention "Energy in Transition organized Summit 2018" from the same agency.

The study, commissioned from the Port of Rotterdam Authority to the Wuppertal Institute, specifies that the majority of these emissions (21,5 million tons) is produced by the marine transport and that, in order to assure that this field is online with the agreement on the climate of Paris, they would have to be reduced of 95% within 2050.

The specific search that in order to obtain until 50% of the decrease of the emissions can be resorted to measures in order to increase energy efficiency, but in order to eliminate the remaining quota emissions it will have to resort to the alternative fuel employment. In particular, in the next decades I use it of the liquified natural gas and of the biocarburanti they will be able to contribute to this transition, but - according to the researchers - the final objective could be reached single with the electrification, the use of the hydrogen and of synthetic fuel as the methanol.

In order to contribute to realize this transition, in occasion of the today's convention the Harbour Authority of Rotterdam has asked the Dutch government to constitute a coalition with nations of north-western Europe so that, in topic of carbon pricing, a cost of the co2 comes unanimously fixed. To such purpose, taking part to the convention the managing director of the harbour agency, Allard Castelein, has assumed a cost very more elevated of the co2 to introduce itself in concomitanza with industrial a political new for Holland. Castelein confides that a price meaningfully more elevated can stimulate new investments in technologies clean and the innovation. "A price comprised between 50 and 70 euros to ton - it has explained - will spur the companies to invest in solutions of which we truly need in order to achieve the objectives of the agreement of Paris on the climate".

Castelein, motivating the necessity to form a coalition of nations, has emphasized that such objective cannot be traguardato with an initiative on exclusively national base, as - it has found - that adopted from the United Kingdom for the electric power production: "as Transit country - it has observed Castelein - Holland closely is connected to the Countries that encircle it. A coalition of north-western Europe would guarantee parity of conditions for the industry".

Remembering that currently the Dutch government is concentrating on the adoption of measures for the reduction of gases greenhouse, Castelein has evidenced that the approach would have to be therefore based on international prices and national stimuli.
