Network of ports of the Adriatic and Ionian for the sustainable management of ship waste
The partners of the European project Ecowaves have signed an agreement
February 24, 2022
Today in Ancona, in the seat of the Port System Authority of the Central Adriatic Sea, during the transnational technical seminar on the waste management at the port of the European project Ecowaves, of which the Adsp of Marche and Abruzzo is partners and which is coordinated by the Adsp of the Ionian Sea-port of Taranto, an agreement has been signed for the launch of the operational link between the scans on this matter. In addition to Admiral Giovanni Pettorino, the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Central Adriatic AdSP, signed the agreement the partners of Ecowaves : the port authority of Igoumenitsa in Greece, the port of Valona in Albania, the Ministry of Montenegro for the transport and maritime affairs, local development agencies of Zara County in Croatia, the Region of Northern Primorska in Slovenia, and trade association for investment Eco zone Ada Hujia of the Serb Republic.
The Ecowaves project aims to prevent the increase in the presence of plastic and other waste in the sea by supporting the development and coordination of transnational methodologies for the sustainable management of ship waste in the countries involved from the Adrion program in the Adriatic Ionian Macroregion that promotes sustainable economic and social development in the Adriatic and Ionian areas.
Ecowaves arises from the awareness of the presence of environmental risks related to the possible illegal discharge of ship waste and the inadequate management of port waste caused by the lack of handling services. To prevent these factors, the objectives to which the partners are working are the elaboration of a transnational strategy for the management of waste in the port and the establishment of a transnational network for environmental protection in port scope. After a detailed analysis of the ecological status of the aqueous mirrors, the production of waste from ships and their mode of management already carried out by the partners, the project now provides for the realization of feasibility studies and pilot actions aimed at to define a model to be applied to the adriatico-ionic area.
