After starting transport earlier this year
train from Reggio Calabria for the Milan Metro,
Mercitalia Rail, the company of the group's Logistics Hub
Italian State Railways, has also started connections to
the transport in "full train" mode of the new
vehicles destined for the Rome Metro. The first convoy is already
arrived at its destination in the capital. The trains are produced by
Hitachi Rail in the Calabrian plant and will be used by
ATAC for the B lines of the capital.
The contract, awarded by Hitachi Rail to Mercitalia Rail
as part of a tender, it includes over 20 trips from the capital
Calabrian to transfer as many trains, with a saving of CO2
215 tons compared to truck transport. Each train
transported consists of six crates and two shield wagons, has a
length of about 134 meters and a weight of about 210 tons.
"Thanks to the great synergy with all the players
involved - underlined Sabrina De Filippis, administrator
delegate of Mercitalia Logistics - we were able to put in place
a door-to-door mode of transport entirely by rail
which reduces emissions and avoids the circulation of trucks in the sections
urban areas of the capital. Efficient, innovative and
sustainable to reduce the environmental and social impact on the Romans and
on the many tourists who will visit the capital this year
jubilee".
