  • Le port d'Anvers dans l'attente de 300 ouvriers portuaires
    Ce n'est pas la première fois que des armateurs, engagés dans les trafics conventionnel/breakbulk et containérisés, nous signalent que le port d'Anvers, le numéro deux européen dans le secteur des diverses, fait preuve d'une certaine faiblesse qui se traduit par un manque crucial d'équipes d'ouvriers portuaires pendant les week-ends et autres jours de congé.   • Peace in our time? Patrick creditors vote yes
    Legal action by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission against the Maritime Union of Australia is now the only unresolved issue from the bitter dispute between Patrick and the union.
    This followed yesterday's signing of the agreement by the creditors of four Patrick labor hire companies.
    The creditors added their signatures to a deed of company arrangement which effectively ended the dispute that crippled Patrick's facilities in April.
    A condition of the arrangement is that the ACCC case is settled.
    At a meeting in Sydney the creditors voted unanimously to support the peace deal, signed on Wednesday by the MUA.
  • Brisbane trade surges
    Strong growth in containerised cargo has underpinned a surge in total trade through the port of Brisbane with figures for the year reaching a record 20,400,490 tonnes.
    Total imports increased by 9.3 per cent to 10,785,270 tonnes, offsetting a slight downturn in exports to 9,615,220 tonnes.
    Total containerised cargo jumped by 16 per cent to 316,549 TEUs, the biggest percentage increase at the port of Brisbane in a decade.
  • Vaile welcomes CASA report
    The Civil Aviation Safety Authority's release of an internal report on its decision to reinstate the Air Operators Certificate of the airline involved in the fatal crash of a seaplane in Sydney last week has been welcomed by Federal Transport Minister, Mark Vaile.
    The preliminary report, by CASA's assistant director of aviation safety compliance Laurie Foley, found that while there was some doubt about aspects of the basis on which CASA's southern regional manager decided to grant a conditional stay on the suspension of Aquatic Air's AOC, there was no immediate need to change CASA's relevant practices and procedures.
  • Staggered introduction for road regs package
    The planned national adoption of the new national log book and truck driving hours package by August this year has been largely put on hold in most states, with the new regulations now set to be implemented in part from next month.
    The national driving hours package, which was approved by he Ministerial Council for Rioad Transport in February is now scheduled to be introduced in Victoria on 1 September and in NSW on 1 November.
