Sea-Land takes over in Brisbane Sea-Land is increasing its presence in the Australian stevedoring scene with its move into the Port of Brisbane. While the company officially took over the new terminal on 1 July, according to Sea-Land's Captain Andy Andrews, it will not become operational "realistically until the last week of August". Cranes for the new facility are on their way from Shanghai, where Sea-Land has had new cranes built for its operations in Oman and Hong Kong. The Brisbane cranes were pulled out of Sea-Land's Hong Kong operation and have been modified for the new Australian operation. They will arrive in Brisbane at the end of the month.
Freight hub for Gippsland Freight transport services from Victoria's flood-ravaged Gippsland region have been given a timely boost, with plans to build a new $3 million intermodal freight hub announced this week. The new road/rail terminal, to be established at the Hazelwood Public siding on land of the old power station at Morwell East, is being developed by National Logistics Coordinators in cooperation with V/Line freight.
